Standards:
All of the silver toned jewelry at Val Damon is "Sterling" or "Sterling Silver" regardless of the presence or lack of a quality stamp, mark or label. In accordance with the "National Gold and Silver Stamping Act of 1906 " aka "Jewelers' Liability Act (Gold and Silver Articles)" all components of every design are at least nine hundred and twenty-five one-thousandth parts pure silver (925/1000 or 92.5%).
We produce a select group of classic designs in 18 karat gold. We adhere to the United States "Gold Labeling Act of 1976" and the tolerances set therein for 18 karat gold.
Most of our gold toned jewelry is 22 karat vermeil. The Federal Trade Commission has defined "vermeil" as sterling silver plated with a minimum of 2.5 microns of gold.
We employ the use of German 23 karat gold patent on select designs through gilding. We adhere to the United States "Gold Labeling Act of 1976" and the tolerances set therein for 23 karat gold.
Moissanite at Val Damon
For every stone, a Certificate of Authenticity and Limited Warranty is provided by Charles & Clovard. Read more about Moissanite.
Val Damon's hand textured finishes allow her pieces to develop a beautiful patina. They are not coated with any lacquer and vermeil pieces contain no nickel to prevent "tarnish" or patination. The desired effect is that of a cherished heirloom as the finish darkens or smoothes out with wear and exposure to environmental conditions. Pieces can be worn and handled for years without much maintenance if care is taken not to expose them to such things as hair sprays and lacquers, chlorine, harsh detergents, perfumes and hair preparations that include sulfur.
If you prefer to maintain the original finish here are some guidelines:
Warm soapy water can be used to clean most textured metal surfaces by using a small amount of mild soap with water and gently cleaning (in the direction of the original finish) with a soft bristle brush then rinse well and pat dry with a soft lint-free cloth.
Bon Ami Polishing Cleanser can be used to restore a matte finish to sterling silver by mixing a small amount with water and gently cleaning (in the direction of the original finish) with a soft bristle brush then rinse well and pat dry with a soft lint-free cloth.
Commercial liquid dip cleaners can be used for excessively tarnished vermeil or sterling silver if care is taken to follow the manufacturer's directions. Apply liquid dip with a cotton swab. Do not submerge jewelry with concrete, stones or pearls in liquid dip cleaners. After cleaning with a liquid dip, wash the entire piece in mild soap and water, rinse well and pat dry with a soft lint-free cloth.
Polishing compounds and polishing cloths are not recommended as they degrade the textured finishes.
Store your jewelry in an anti-tarnish pouch or in a zip lock bag with a commercial anti tarnish strip when you are not wearing it.
